It's not surprising when you really think about it. With every technological breakthrough in the American economy, you can be sure the military had it first. That's why it's called the military industrial-complex. Perhaps no financial force has been so influential in the last century than the military, both in research and implementation and culture. The military is tied to almost every aspect of our lives we take for granted from the television to the superconductor to the microprocessor. Behind every Fortune 500 company is a history of financial support from public contract. The same can be said for Oracle, Microsoft, Apple, IBM, GE, Westinghouse, Walmart and so many others. Militaries around the world do so much more than just wage wars.
